Dodgy Ankles

Bloody ankles! I went along to Sunday football today, had a little knock-about whilst the team were warming up and it didn’t take long to get a pain in my ankle to signal that they are not better yet. I sprained the right one before Christmas, and then did something weird and muscular to the left one a couple of weeks back. I was hoping they would be fine as I’d been getting through 5-aside, maybe taking a knock on them, and then being able to run that off after a few minutes. A boggy grass football field is no substitute for the flat surfaces of a sports hall and so it shall be a couple more weeks before I think I’ll happily run on grass.

95884961_6fb7f5c94c_m-9725382On a positive note though, I started a book for our football tour so that people can start paying in a few quid every week and then have less  hassle when it comes to summer as most of the costs will be paid. We haven’t had any big tours (weekend away/piss-ups) for a while now, so it’s good to start planning with 6 months to go, and will also mean that we should be able to get more people to come along.

The team had a cup game today and won 2-1, although it was very close for the last 20 minutes and we almost threw it away. Nice work lads.

Escargots a la Bourguignonne

I really wasn’t feeling too brilliant last night and I think part of it had to do with all the big dinners I’ve been having over the Christmas period. Couple this with my sprained ankle (photo here) which has meant minimal exercise and it all all adds up to a very stodgy me.

For a snack today though I thought I’d try out some of my frozen snails I bought on my trip to France, and below you can see a photo. OK, so not that interesting to you, and in all honesty they weren’t overly fantastic but it made a change from meat and two veg.

Places I’ve been, countries I’ve seen

I popped out for a few drinks last night with Tim and Tom and for some reason we got talking about which countries we’ve been too and I thought I’d list my countries here. I’ve only listed places that I can honestly say I’ve visited and not just put down places that a plane may have landed when on route to somewhere else as that would be cheating. Including the UK would also be cheating so my list of countries I’ve actually visited are:

  1. Belgium
  2. Canada
  3. Cyprus
  4. Czech Republic
  5. France
  6. Germany
  7. Latvia
  8. Portugal
  9. Qatar
  10. Spain
  11. Sri Lanka
  12. Turkey
  13. USA

Not bad, but there are plenty more places I’d like to visit, and some places I’d like to go to again.

How many countries have you been to?

Kitchen almost finished

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house and so it comes as no suprise that this is where I’ve spent the most money whilst renovating (apart from central heating). I’ve tiled the floor, painted the wall and ceiling, installed new units, new worktops, got new electric oven and gas hob, new sink, new taps, basically everything in there is new.

Before and after shot of the kitchen

I must say I’m quite happy with it considering the space I’ve got and the budget I’ve had, and all that is left is to sort out the tiling the splashback behind the hob and giving a new lick of paint in a few spaces where my grubby hands have been whilst I was tiling.

Kitchen Update

I was working down the house last night and only got to see the 2nd half of the Champion’s League final between Manchester United and Barcelona, but from what I saw it looked like Barça thoroughly deserved their win and were the better team on the night.

As for my work down the house, which I know you find immensely interesting, I have now put together my kitchen units and will be buying my worktop tonight. I will then be able to put in my oven, hob, and sink, and then my kitchen will be almost complete. I’ll then just have to bring in my washing machine, fridge-freezer, and also put in my wall cabinets. It sounds a lot for a little kitchen but I can assure you I’ve measured it and it will all be fine as it’s still less than what was in the kitchen before I ripped it out.

n.b. As you may have noticed, I’m taking quite a few photos and videos of pretty inane things and some of them aren’t meant to be interesting as they are mainly for me so I have records of all the things I’m doing to the house. If you want to see them then that’s a bonus. This was also a chance for me to use Flickr video for the first time as opposed to Youtube or Vimeo.

Sunset at Westwood, Broadstairs

The nights are drawing in and it’s dark by 4pm, but at least I get to see things like this at work. I was looking out the window and took a wander outside and got this snap on my phone:

I don’t really take any photos on my phone as I always seem to think that the resolution is poor (only 1 megapixel), but having uploaded them to my PC they haven’t come out too bad. Hmmm cue more photos.

PC, BDOF, R1, + TV

So time for another post by me… what have I been up to then? Well nothing really that notable to be honest but life isn’t too bad so I can’t really complain.

I’ve got the new PC up and running and Vista seems to be coping quite well…for the moment at least. In the ned I needed to replace the DVD drive too which turned out not to be a DVD-drive but in fact a CD-drive, and a broken one at that, but luckily I took this out of my old desktop (a DVD/CD rewriter) and replaced that one with a CD-rewriter I had laying about in a cupboard. So now I’m running a 2.8MHz P4 with 2GB RAM and a 500GB HDD, and it runs well.

I haven’t used the laptop since although there is information I will want to transfer over but that can wait for now.

In other news I went on an 11 hour drinking session on Saturday or BDOF (Boys Day Of Fun) as we like to call it, and had a very nice time chilling out in quite a few pubs in Canterbury. It was just me, Chris, Tim, and Jonny out of the regular Ramsgate lads, but it was nice because we met up with some of Chris’ old work colleagues who were a nice bunch and it made a change to mic with a different crowd. The old crowd are all still very nice but I haven’t seen them for a while due to work. Also Chris lost his wallet….idiot!….although it’s making me think that maybe I should make a note of what I actually have in my wallet so that if I get in the same situation I will know what’s missing…. It’s just like backing up information… there’s always time to do it later…..isn’t there?

It looks like I’m just going to blog about anything in this post as I might as well say it now or I’ll forget, so what else has been happening? Well I’ve been getting hit by big waves of nostalgia and this has been partly due to Radio One’s 40th Birthday celebrations where they’ve been playing clips and songs from that period, and as I’ve been listening to Radio One for the best part of 15 years, basically since I started secondary school, a lot of the stuff they’ve been wheeeling out has brought the memories back. I’ve heard bits from Mark & Lard, Zoe Ball, etc which is from around the time I was in 6th Form, and I suppose when I really got into music. It’s sad to say that I’m not really into my music that much at the moment, but I think I’m going to have to go through my CDs and listen to a few more, especially the ones from that period.

I heard a few Oasis and Blur songs on the radio, and they were amazing. There was none of this pompous, arty-farty, celeb thing going on in the music in the songs I heard. They were pure and although there was an image attached to it, it was all new when it all came out, not this cliched drivel that Oasis spew out now (can’t comment on Blur now… as they no longer exist). Take me back to Definitely Maybe and the memories come flooding back. That is definitely one that will be in the CD player…. as soon as I can find it!

Phew… went off on one a little there didn’t I? I’m sure I’ve got some more stuff to talk about but I guess it’s all going to be single sentance stuff, and of no interest at all (hopefully that doesn’t apply to all I’ve said in this post!) I’ve got to pop back into work at 7pm for an hour but then I will have my evening free… whoopsiedoo! I guess I’ll waste that then…although I do feel like popping out or something but I doubt anyone will be up to anything.

Ooh… Just remembered that I watched the new episodes of Heroes and……. *drumroll*… The Bionic Women starring Zoe Slater from Eastenders. Can’t be bothered to talk more about them though as I’m sure there’s plenty of reviews about.

Also… on one final point…. this is for my fellow Thanetians….check this out.

Button Maker

When I moved over to this new site, one of the major things was that I should keep it tidy and less cluttered, unlike the blog I had just migrated from, and so items on the sidebar are limited and the question was where to put other links that still needed prominence but wouldn’t be used a great deal.

The obvious solution was on the footer, an often unused area of websites which usually just contain a copyright notice. I opted for buttons, and wanted them to be of a uniform style and size and I found the perfect tool here which allows for a huge amount of variables to make the badge bespoke for you.

Have a little scroll down and see what I’ve done. Whilst you’re there why not subscribe to my feed so that you never miss a post!

p.s. I’ve decided that I’m going to stop with the lyrical post titles for the moment and see how it goes.

So tell me can you feel the madskills comin’ wid da fever, fever, fever.

deep_heat_rub__5165687-5707824For the past 2 days I’ve felt crap. I’ve got a cold and I’ve also pulled a muscle in my neck. This has meant that I’ve not gone to the gym and I’ve had to miss football tonight.

I think the cold is breaking, and I got some Deep Heat to rub on my neck, so hopefully I’ll be fine for the weekend, on which I’ll incidently not be drinking…. Hurrah! I’m driving on Friday, and I’ve got no plans on Saturday so a much needed rest will be in order.

How are you?

Please allow me to introduce myself

Big news for the Isle of Wight Festival, which I’ll be going to in June. After weeks and weeks of speculation the Rolling Stones have finally been confirmed as the Sunday Night Headliners! It’s a real coup for the festival and I am really excited that I’ll get to see the Stones who, you have to admit, are one of the biggest bands in the world (and the oldest!). It really spices up the event as quite a lot of the bands are a bit MOR, and although good, the Stones should hopefully play some real classics. rolling_stones_211005_w-8986120Also added to the line-up are Groove Armada, for the Friday night, which will add a dance element to the evening. I like Groove Armada (a poorman’s Bassment Jaxx?) and will be hoping that another big ‘dance’ act gets added to the bill. I’d actually like to see Mylo…we’ll see…..
