Internet Radio

I’ve been trying to set up an internet radio station. cool eh? The emphasis should really be on the ‘trying’. Basic scenario is audio>computer>server>computer>listener but I’m having a problem with setting up a streaming server, and with that I’m stuck.

There are programmes that use your computer as the server but there are limitations to this as to how many listeners you can have due to bandwidth. I really want to use my remote host as the server but I haven’t been able to crack this problem. Several services are available out there where you can get access to a streaming server but all these involve a fee.  Icecast seemed to be a good solution but I can’t get to grips with installing it and so far Shoutcast only works a local server.

I know I’m probably missing something so if anyone knows how to set up a streaming audio server then please leave a comment.
