Painted Ladies in Ramsgate

My cat has been getting an extra supplement to her diet in the form of an influx of Painted Ladies (Vanessa cardui) butterflies who have come over to our shores after migrating from North Africa and the Mediterranean. There were a dozen or so in the garden late yesterday afternoon, enjoying the sun and also my sage plant which has just flowered, and due to the warm temperatures we should be expecting many more who find Morocco a little too hot this time of year and have now decided that the UK is of a more amiable climate.

It wasn?t just the butterflies that were enjoying the Sage though as the Bees were out too collecting nectar from the flowering Sage plant.

For a few more photos I took of the butterflies and bees head over to my flickr set.
