Yesterday the tickets went on sale for the Isle of Wight Festival 2008 but unlike last year I was not logged into a multitude of websites trying to be one of the many to buy ticket, constantly refreshing the page on the overloaded ticket booking systems.
After such an amazing time last year I was stuck in two minds as whether to go again this year, or to leave it and keep an untarnished memory of the festival. In the end, work committments have ruled it out and so the decision was taken out of my hands. Last year had an amazing line-up and the Isle of Wight Festival won the award Best Major Festival at the UK Festival Awards for that year. The line-up was:
Friday
* Snow Patrol
* Groove Armada as special guest.
* The Feeling
* Echo & The Bunnymen
* KOOPA
Saturday
* Muse
* Kasabian as special guest.
* Ash
* Wolfmother
* Amy Winehouse
* Donovan
* Arno Carstens
* Carbon Silicon
* The Thirst
* The Menschen
Sunday
* The Rolling Stones
* Keane as special guest.
* The Fratellis
* Paolo Nutini
* James Morrison
* Melanie C
* Country Joe McDonald
* The Hedrons
* Siniez
So am I annoyed I can?t go this year? Well, no actually. I think the line-up announced so far is a little poor and doesn?t really inspire me at all. This year?s acts include:
Friday
* Kaiser Chiefs
Saturday
* The Sex Pistols
Sunday
* The Police
Other Acts Confirmed to Play (Days not yet scheduled)
* Kate Nash
* The Enemy
* Lilly Allen
* James
* KT Tunstall
* The Zutons
* Iggy and the Stooges
Of course there will be more added to the bill, and I?m sure that if I was to go, I?d still enjoy myself, but I think that having to work has done me (and my wallet) a big favour.
For now I?ll just think of last year and how great it was.
I know my mate wanted to go last year and he had loads of problems getting tickets, I hope they make things easier.
I didn?t have that much problem getting the tickets to be honest and the whole weekend went like a dream. I?m almost 100% sure that if I had gone this year it wouldn?t even compare, both in regards to the acts, but also how smoothly it all goes.
Maybe next year..
