?The Wrestler? and ?Slumdog Millionaire?

The Wrestler, starring Mickey Rourke

First off if you are from the MPAA then please stop reading now. Done? Alright now we?re safe.

I was lucky enough last week to come across two soon-to-be-released films which I?d heard good things about:

The Wrestler, directed by Darron Aronofsky and starring Mickey Rourke. (Release Date: 16th January 2009)

Slumdog Millionaire, directed by Danny Boyle and starring Dev Patel. (Release Date: 9th January 2009)

I?m not going to go into huge details as I?m sure you can follow the links and read plenty of other reviews, plus I wouldn?t want to ruin them for you, but let me say that they were both brilliant, and that you?d be a fool to miss them when they come out at the cinema.

Mickey Rourke was obviously the star of The Wrestler and I think the praise he is getting is justified, but the stars of Slumdog Millionaire are not, in my opinion, the adult leads, but actually the child actors in the first half of the film; Ayush Mahesh Khedekar and Azharuddin Mohammed Ismail.

Try and watch them both. If you?re into watching a more indie-type film about self destruction then go watch The Wrestler but if you prefer something you can watch with your other half and be smiling at the end then opt for Slumdog Millionaire.

  1. Slumdog is a very good film, great to see stuff that is different, and all so real. A very good watch for any move fan.
