People had to see it for themselves so at the end of the match I popped over to the 24 hour Budgens and picked up a 2 litre bottle of Diet Coke and a roll of Mentos. A gang of us went out to the carpark and it was here that history would take place. If you?ve looked at the linked video you?ll see what the reaction is, and there has to be some good timing to get all the mentos in the bottle without getting yourself covered in coke, so I fashioned a tube from a piece of paper and used a beermat as a release mechanism so that I could pull the beermat away, the methos would drop ,and the fun would commence.
Everything went to plan although the stream was only about 4 foot tall. Excellent fun and when I got home I had to find out why it happened, and found this page. It details how to do the experiment and the reasons behind it.
Have fun kids.
My daughter did that experiment at a Guiding science camp in January. She really liked it. I think they used something other than Mentos, but I can?t remember what it was.
Dude! That is totally awesome. I?m so doing that at the weekend! Killer.
You coming down?
Sorry dude but not able to as just remembered it?s the footy teams last game of the season on Sunday morning and we?re meant to be having a get together afterwards which I can?t really miss.
I?ll be with you in spirit though. Have a good one.
The daughter said they used sand instead of the Mentos. Probably a little more difficult to get the sand into the bottle all in one go.
That does totally kick ass!
Thanks for the link to the ?science bit? too.
