And if I?m starving, you can feed me lollipops

I bought some electronic scales on Saturday so that I could monitor my weightloss at home, and I?ve got to say that the body is a very odd thing. It?s amazing how much bodyweight can fluctuate throughout the day with my weight shifting by as much as 6 pounds between the morning and the evening.

I?ve now taken to only recording my morning weight as the majority of the variables are fixed. I will always be wearing the same clothes (boxers and t-shirt) and won?t have had anything to eat yet. Even this isn?t fool proof though as my weight was 4 pounds lighter this morning than yesterday morning, and I doubt I?ve lost that much!

These daily weigh-ins are good and I record them, but in reality it will only be my target end-weight compared to my start weight that will matter, and as that is a larger amount then the small differences and fluctuations won?t matter and are only a small percentage of the loss.

I?ve basically set myself 6 months to get fit, which is how long my free gym membership lasts, but I?ve got a few goals along the way that I need to lose weight for, which are the Rugby Sevens tournament in 1 month, and the Isle of Wight Festival in 3 months.

In reality, the gym won?t make too much of a difference but it will be my diet that does, and apart from a few treats this weekend (the fry-up + and a small slice of pizza after football) I?ve stuck to it very well. I?ve also stopped snacking, which I only did out of boredom, and now just stick to my meals. Aren?t I being good?! Are you bored yet?

This is the kind of post I have been dying to write. I?m cheering you on. And, I think having a few ?treats? as you call it is the only way to make a diet plan work?otherwise you just feel deprived and won?t want to follow through.

I?ve been on a diet since the beginning of the new year. So far I?ve lost 8 pounds. (I started at 266, I?m down to 258, goal is 230 as I am naturally a big person.

The bodies weight does naturally fluctuate. It?s mostly due to water weight. Because of this, i only weigh myself once a week, on monday?s when I get up.

One week I?ll lose a pound, the next I?ll lose five? after the five pound loss I have pretty much guarenteed myself a 3 pound gain for the next week.

The significance of my ?goal? weight is that is what I weighed my senior year of high school when I was actually an athlete.

Yes, as Michael so rightly points out you?re talking about water weight. It?s best to weigh yourself in the am after going to the bathroom and before eating or drinking. How often to weigh in is a matter of personal preference. Like Michael, I prefer once a week because those little fluctuations drive me nuts! I?ve lost 20 lbs. since the end of Sept. though and am pretty happy. Only about 10 to go!

The other thing to remember is that muscle weighs more than fat. If you?re exercising then it may seem as though you?re not losing weight and it can be discouraging. Watch the waistline as much as the weight itself as it will probably be a more accurate indicator.

    Good luck!

Cheers guys. I still enjoy keeping track of the daily weight, but know that it?s only really the end-line and my target weight that I should aim for.

I think after a few weeks of weigh-ins I should start to see a definite pattern and hopefully some substantiated weightloss.

I?ve got quite a few shirts which are very snug, but I?ve kept them in the wardrobe and will give them a try in a few weeks time. It?ll be nice to have more clothes available again!

I?m aiming to lose 45 pounds by the way!

Looks like you?re doing a grand job there Adem. You are certainly seem to have the right mind and are doing very well sticking to your task of weight loss.

I should take a leaf out of your book, that being to stop snacking in between meals; I too sometimes do it out of boredom. If I am to snack I should try to make it a healthy one rather than junk food.

My aim is to be healthier in terms of what I am eating. I always have healthy evening meals and a fruit/cereal bar during the day (I am not a dinner man) and I always have breakfast. Hopefully I will stop snacking or start eating healthier snacks, i.e. fruit!

Good Luck and keep up the good work Adem!!
