Broadstairs named 2nd best seaside town

Broadstairs Seaside
The Guardian has today named Broadstairs, the town where I work and only 2 miles from where I live as the second best seaside town following on from St. Ives which came first.

Guradian readers were asked to make their nominations and these were whittled down to just twelve: Blackpool (Lancashire), Brighton (East Sussex), Broadstairs (Kent),Kinsale (County Cork), Looe (Cornwall), North Berwick (East Lothian), Portstewart (County Derry), Southwold (Suffolk), St Andrews (Fife), St David?s (Pembrokeshire), St Ives (Cornwall), Whitby (North Yorkshire).

A group of judges including the likes of Rick Stein and Bill Bryson then had to make their choices.

Broadstairs, with its four delightful beaches, old-fashioned sensibilities, exquisite ice-cream shop (Morelli?s Parlour) and eccentric Punch and Judy show drew some strong support.

I always feel proud when my local area is mentioned in a good light in the national news as it does sometimes get some bad press. If you?d like to find out more then follow this link.

  1. The Eon ads have probably done it no harm.

We spent a weekend in Broadstairs a couple of years ago. No real reason apart from some of my family used to holiday there back in ?olden times? and always spoke highly of it.

Great views, friendly people, nice seafood, good Shepherd Neame beer, overall: beautiful place.

Yes, Broadstairs in nice but it doesn?t have the best football team in Kent (or a football team at all).
That would be Ramsgate which apart from the Rams also has a royal harbour, best marina in the UK, Pugin-designed house of vital architectural significance, grammar school that educated a Prime Minister, lived in by Van Gogh, visited on holiday by Jane Austen, Karl Marx and Queen Victoria . . . need I go on?

You?re preaching to the converted Clive. I am a Ramsgate boy and proud of it!
