Polish Spitfire shoots down BNP

bnp_poster pointed me towards this article and I decided to post about it as I found it very amsusing.  Basically the BNP has made an anti-immigration poster that features a Spitfire of the RAF No. 303 ?Ko?ciuszko? Polish Fighter Squadron, formed in Britain as part of an agreement between the Polish Government in Exile and the United Kingdom.

The pilots of the 303 Squadren accounted for 203 Luftwaffe aircraft ? roughly 12 per cent of total German losses, and is a time when we must be grateful for the Polish ?coming over here and taking our jobs.?

Also the Spitfire didn?t win the Battle of Britain it was actually the Hawker Hurricane.

Whilst a Spitfire would be weeks in a metal workshop after being hit a Hurricane could be repaired in minutes by just putting Irish linen over the damage.

The Spitfire is more famous as there was more development capability in the platform which is why it replaced the Hurricanes as the war progressed.

Also 303sqn flew Hurricanes during the battle of Britain, they recieved their Spitfires after the Battle so this photo must have been take well after the battle.

To be a bit pedantic as Eich says above 303 flew Hurricanes in the Battle of Britain and the 12% total was for all the Polish squadrons, not just 303. 303s total for the BoB was 126 enemy aircraft and was the highest total for a single squadron.

I think the best reply to the BNP would be to quote a line from the film ?Battle of Britain?.

    ?Shut up?..in Polish?.
