London to Brighton Bike Ride | The Big Blog

My sister is doing the London to Brighton Bike Ride on Sunday and is trying to get more sponsors so I thought I’d put a plea onto the blog as you never know who might be reading. She’s raising money for the British Heart Foundation and will be cycling 54 miles (87km) in a day and I’ll be driving down to meet her at the finish line.

If you fancy giving some money, no matter how small it is, then please click the link below to donate:

Edit: Read about it here and check out photos.

In other news, Ben, a friend of Steve’s, who I met at the Isle of Wight Festival took some photos of when we were watching The Rolling Stones and I wanted to share them with you to show you how cool it was. The band were playing on the main stage and then halfway through the performance they all moved onto a certain piece of staging that actually cut it’s way though the crowd and then pneumatically lifted itself up and as you can see we had a really good view.

Amazing eh?

Anyway tonight I’m off to the Uni Summer Ball, and luckily this year I won’t be working so will be indulging in a few beers, although we’ll have to see if I’ll last until 4am when the Ball shuts!

Xpert Eleven – Online Football Management | The Big Blog

I’ve been busy for quite a while and haven’t managed to scour the internet to tell you about all the new and shiny things out there, but I have made one new discovery, and a fun one at that.

The site in question is Xpert Eleven, billed as “The Best Online Football Management Game With Focus On Coaching”, which does exactly what it says on the tin, although it also has a social networking aspect to it, which is what gives the site it’s uniqueness over other games, and there are currently 173500 members registered on Xpert Eleven.

Xpert Eleven is the game where you can challenge your friends in the noble art of coaching a football team. Get your friends together and create your own league system.

You can make up your own team, make up your own league, or join up to other leagues already running, and all the teams in the game are managed by real players who you can interact with, either wheeling and dealing, playing matches against, or just chatting.

It is free to sign up although their is a VIP option which allows you to upload club badges, design new kits, and generally customise your presence, along with giving you access to more stats and the abilty to join further leagues.

I’ve signed up for the VIP and am currently playing in four different leagues, and it is quite enjoyable, and not too time demanding as matches are played either once or twice a week, with the time in between spent organising the team.

We consider Xpert Eleven to be a social game that everybody can play. It’s easy to play, but hard to master.

The section I enjoy the most though is the ‘Press’ section, where you can put out press releases about virtually anything, ususally putting down your next opposition.

Why don’t you give it a go? I promise I’ll have a nerdier post next time!!

Stirrings at Ramsgate Port? | The Big Blog

Filed in Local News , Photography , Ramsgate 145 comments

From the look of these photos sent in by one of my readers (taken at 1:20pm today) it does look like there are some things going on down at the port of Ramsgate to suggest that it is getting ready for Euroferries to start their service. New check-in/security cabins  have been delivered and there is also new signage which shows check-in signs for cars, coaches, and freight. The fact that there is a sign for coaches implies that this is indeed for Euroferries as to my knowledge this is not something that Transeuropa Ferries offer although the freight would indeed be a sign for them.

These signs haven’t been put -up yet, and so there is no indication for when the service will start, but are a good sign (excuse the pun)  that the port is getting prepared for that time. You can see a few more photos here.
